Anniversary Celebrations

Anniversary celebrations, commonly known as vujut, are among the largest events organized by local student associations. They celebrate the association’s “birthday” with a grand evening celebration, followed by a more relaxed get-together the next morning—often called a sillis—to recover together from the festivities.

Rauman Insinööriopiskelijat RaunIO ry actively aims to represent itself at the anniversary celebrations of other associations. If you are interested in acting as a representative of RaunIO ry at other organizations’ anniversary events, please do not hesitate to contact us.

RaunIO celebrated its 30th anniversary on 24–25 February 2024, and the next major celebration will take place in 2029.

Bus Beer Tour (Bussikalja)

At Bussikalja, students put on their overalls and hop on buses to tour around Satakunta and the west coast, visiting various bars and nightclubs along the way. The evening traditionally ends back in Rauma with after-parties at a local dance club. Bussikalja is traditionally organized twice a year—once in autumn and once in spring.

Beer Relay (Olutviesti)

The Olutviesti is believed to be one of the oldest student events in Rauma, with its roots reaching back to the previous millennium. Each year, the event features changing checkpoints and a new theme, introducing participants to a wide variety of games and quizzes—many of which every student should experience during their studies. The evening concludes in traditional fashion at Ravintola Kallio, where a different artist each year keeps students dancing into the early hours of the morning.

Orientation Week

To help new students get familiar with their new school—and for many, a new city—the Rauma tutors introduce freshly enrolled students to the secrets of student life. Traditionally, everyone gathers at Parpansali Park to spend time together, getting to know fellow students through socializing and icebreaker games.

Back2School

Organized in cooperation by all local student organizations in Rauma, Back2School marks the end of Orientation Week in the autumn and welcomes students back to campus life in the spring. The idea of the evening is simple and needs little explanation: fun that lasts well into the night.

Overall Baptism

At the Overall Baptism, new students are finally granted permission to wear the overalls they’ve been eagerly waiting for. This takes place in the form of a light-hearted oath ceremony, after which participants continue via a checkpoint tour toward the evening’s after-party location. The baptism is one of the most significant milestones of the freshman year in adapting to student life.

Lukkoppro

In the spring, students pull hockey jerseys on over their overalls and head to Kivikylän Areena to cheer Rauman Lukko to victory. This is without a doubt one of the most popular student events in the region throughout the entire year—and one you definitely do NOT want to miss. Rumor has it that people have even traveled all the way from Lapland just to attend Lukko Appro…

Christmas Gala (Joulugaala)

The Christmas Gala marks the ceremonial end of the academic year, leaving the overalls at home and dressing in one’s finest attire. At the Christmas Gala, fellow students are thanked and students who have distinguished themselves during the year are rewarded in various categories.

May Day Week (Wappuviikko)

Every student waits for this moment like the rising of the moon. May Day (Vappu) is the celebration of workers—and especially students—and Rauma is no exception. The week-long festivities include statue cappings, picnics, and a wide variety of events that are guaranteed to leave no one cold. One of the highlights of the week is the Wapprobatur organized in Pori by Opiskelijakunta SAMMAKKO, bringing together students from the surrounding region to bid farewell to the academic year.

And many more…

Rauman Insinööriopiskelijat RaunIO ry organizes a huge number of events every year, working closely with Rauman Liiketalousopiskelijain Kilta ry (RLO Kilta), which shares office facilities with us, as well as with many other local—and sometimes even non-local—student organizations.

This ensures that every student in Rauma is guaranteed to find something to do. And if, after all this, it still feels like something is missing, we are always open to new ideas and suggestions!
